Strider, Neo, Moon Unit--how would you name your Version 2.0? If you want your new packet to have some geek cred, maybe you prefer the obscure (Dade), the obvious (Ripley) or the just plain evil (Anakin)? All are apparently legitimate names selected by nerdy parents. Join discussion...

A few days ago I was writing about the first step towards stopping the illegal upload of music files. And as I was saying MySpace was the first to follow this path. You can read the full article here. Any way, today YouTube or should I say Google dropped the bomb. They will be using AudibleMagic (same as MySpace) for the copyright filtering technology. Polar bears, sea ice and global warming are taboo subjects, at least in public, for some U.S. scientists attending meetings abroad, environmental groups and a top federal wildlife official said on Thursday. Listed as a "new requirement" for foreign travelers on U.S. government business, the memo says that requests for foreign travel "involving or potentially involving climate change, sea ice, and/or polar bears" require special handling. This is a hilariously accurate parody of the kind of ridiculous discussions between editors that you can often see on Wikipedia's talk pages. It will seem very familiar if you've tried editing Wikipedia pages that are controlled by one of the notorious 'Wikilawyers', who always have a rule to support their point of view. For extra lols, look at the Wikipedia members opinion of this parody / / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Reference_desk/Archive_16#Something_Awful Join discussion...

The state of New Mexico could effectively secede from the astronomical community if a resolution to call Pluto a planet is passed. It states that Pluto, the recently demoted object, "be declared a planet and that March 13, 2007 be declared 'Pluto Planet Day' at the legislature". New Mexico state university was the longtime home of Clyde Tombaugh, discoverer of Pluto. Join discussion...
