But nature is not bountiful. If it were, human history would be one of prosperity and long, healthy lives rather than one of oppressive poverty and short, miserable lives. Nature is miserly.

Cafe Hayek: Green Is As Green Does

In Europe, consumers pay up to $9 a gallon for gasoline, in part because European Union governments tax gasoline at rates of $2 to $3 a gallon and more. What most people don't realize is that gasoline taxes are implicit carbon taxes. Taxing gasoline at $1 a gallon is roughly equivalent to taxing the carbon dioxide emissions from gasoline at $100 per ton.
Yet where in Europe is the miracle fuel to replace petroleum? Where are all the zero-emission vehicles? Europe is not one mile closer than we are to achieving a "beyond petroleum" transport system. In fact, from 1990 to 2004, EU transport sector carbon dioxide emissions increased by almost 26%.

There are hidden contradictions in the minds of people who “love Nature” while deploring the “artificialities” with which “Man has spoiled Nature.” The obvious contradiction lies in their choice of words, which imply that Man and his artifacts are not part of “Nature"-but beavers and their dams are. But the contradictions go deeper than this prima-facie absurdity. In declaring his love for a beaver dam (erected by beavers for beavers’ purposes) and hatred of dams erected by men (for the purposes of men) the “Naturist” reveals his hatred for his own race-i.e., his own self hatred.

Barack Obama delivered a major foreign policy speech in 30-minutes to 200,000 enthusiastic onlookers and supporters at the base of the “Victory Column” - the Siegessäule in the middle of a roundabout called the Grosser Stern in the Tiergarten Park - Berlin’s sprawling park in the center of the city. When a reporter asked the senator if he considered the address a campaign event, he said with a puzzled look: “As opposed to?” “It’s not a political rally,” he added. “Hopefully, it will be viewed as a substantive, articulation of the relationship I’d like to see between the United States and Europe. I’m hoping to communicate across the Atlantic the value of that relationship and how we need to build on it.”The entire text (added bonus pictures also from the Berlin Speech), to the Obama Berlin speech is down loadable at end of this narrative.

Does the United States now elect slackers who abuse their privilege of representing this nation by NOT fulfilling their duties in Congress, so they can run for higher office? Or do complacent voters just neglect these facts and further contribute to this compounded problem by simply turning their cheek the other way? Pretty disgusting if you ask me either way- that any U.S. Congressman or U.S. Senator has the impudence to "expect" from American citizens to respect them and their potential future leadership in higher office, when in turn they do NOT deserve the current Congressional seat they are occupying by not performing their existing Constitutional obligation... NOT consequential enough for complacent voters is anyone's guess.

I'm not sure, "I think--I'll have my staff get to you," ... when asked how many homes John McCain and wife Cindy own. What kind of reality is that? Don't you dare take the American People for blooming idiots John McCain- because that will destroy what little credibility you have left faster than a Enron lie!

Political Theater-Obama Nominated by Acclamation by Clinton

Well the drama of political theater unfolded that we haven’t seen in a while, as the roll call vote for Barack Obama’s Democratic Party nomination, went state after state honoring Clinton’s bid for the White House. Some states yielded unanimous votes by their delegation for Barack Obama... even though some of those states were won by Clinton, until they got to New Mexico where there were by everyone count, enough votes for the nomination to have the winning delegate count - but after much political fanfare New Mexico yielded to the state of Illinois where everyone thought that would be the appropriate end by casting the winning votes to break the delegate barrier for the nomination. But it was not to be.
