Microsoft Silverlight: Flash killer ? (2 comments, +27 / -0 votes )
Not ranked yet
#2 don't underestimate the millions of .net developers out there. Microsoft have a base of developers that could well make silverlight a leading provider of web advertising animations in a years time.

I can only speak for myself but when it comes to coding i prefer using .net technologies over flash's action script.

I can create 3 equivalent animations in silverlight in the space of 1 animation in flash. It's just too easy for a .net programmer to pick up silverlight versus flash.

American ACLU Defends Nazis, Again! (1 comment, +27 / -2 votes )

#1 My personal opinion on the issue is that i completely disagree with ACLU. The views of Nazi supporters are just plain WRONG! There is no way you can justify the hateful view's of Nazi's! Thankfully ive never crossed paths with a Nazi supporter here in Australia but if i did, if they started chanting ill will to other races in front of me i'd give them my version of "free speech"!!!

#3 L1Wulf: yeah.. ive realised its easier to just post and stop sumarizing.. it takes too long to do it that way.. Ill just sumarize in the comments..

Shinynew: so if your a generationY does the definition describe ya? do you classify yourself as a narcissit

#1 i really like the idea but it doesnt work for me? Maybe it got to many hits from all the social sites and the audio hosting server crashed...

Anyway ill keep trying over the next couple of days, id like to see it work.

ps. it makes use of one big flash file as its homepage, not very well designed if it becomes really popular...

Microsoft probes possible Xbox Live fraud (2 comments, +24 / -0 votes )

#2 It makes me mad how microsoft's support behaved .. Of the comments i've read those that have had there details stolen were treated like criminals by live support.

I was actually thinking of getting xbox360 purely for the live services in a couple of months (when the next version comes along with all the cool new features).. but just the stories ive heard about support leaves me delaying that move..

#1 I also tried reading the paper, you did a good job summarizing it. Though anyone that knows anything about social networks or has been watching the space in the last year or more knew all that.

I guess they did it in collaboration with others and did it in a formal scientific way.

Where is the coRank community? (12 comments, +27 / -2 votes )
Not ranked yet
#8 yes i believe your right, while coRank is young it will be only a couple that do most of the commenting..

But i believe that will change over time (assuming coRank grows)

I wonder how digg began in terms of the rate of comments to articles in the early days. If only we could view the articles from a year ago and see what the rate of comments were per article..

#1 I have no clue about physics in general but he made it sound so easy and interesting. This guy is amazing, i was spell bound throughout the entire lecture.

It saddens me that he probably won't be with us for much longer!!

Where is the coRank community? (12 comments, +27 / -2 votes )
Avg: Agree
#4 Commenting will take off as soon as someone integrates speech into text and expose the API's into the browser.

As soon as adding comments to things like this is as simple as speaking then we'll see mass commenting..

ps. were not far off, theres alot of work in this space going on including stuff im working on ;)

#2 Ive tried starting conversations but to no avail, its just hard to entice people to talk.

Might need to investigate ways to entice people to comment, this topic is probably good food for an article in itself.

#4 the information was great but there was still no clear indication how we should use that button?

I hope i got this right, you went on to say that RBA uses it to vote down stuff he doesn't like then he just stopped doing this because of negative connotations. So how does he use it now?

If that button is used half heartedly then it's not really going to be useful in any algorithm because it's usage pattern is irregular and unstable..

#1 This is a very interesting story because it really gets me excited about the whole "build many niche sites" trend thats hitting the internet right now.

Theres just so many of the big media companies (see some of my previous posts) that are building this model into their business model.

Theres an opportunity for sites like coRank that if they can opensource there architecture they can leverage this trend cause these big companies are gonna want frameworks to build hundreds of niche websites in rapid timeframes..

Especially for video sharing sites with social tools. I'm trying to get a couple of friends together to form one such company and pitch it to some local businesses downunder..

Why i moved from Digg to coRank (9 comments, +32 / -3 votes )
Avg: Agree
#6 I remember late last year when nearly everything Kevin Rose did made front page .. and every enhancement to digg made front page (digg job page) ... and even site issues with digg made front page (digg yellow sticky not big enough to handle the apple phone diggs '10000+ diggs') ..

Yeah digg is really biased to articles with apple/mac,kevin/opensource etc etc.. Im hoping coRank proves to be more civilized than that...

#2 don't appologize that IS all i said. I could of said more about Digg, and i probably will in time, but for now i just wanted to write a quick and dirty blog entry before i head to work. As for saying more about coRank, ill definetely say more about that too. I did get more than just gooey feelings from using coRank :)

Google tests dumbed down search service (2 comments, +13 / -2 votes )
Not ranked yet
#1 ive tried the service previously and in my case it was a useless tool with no added benefits over search.

Google need to fix there search first, get rid of the first couple of pages of spam and hidden adverts.

When i search google i normally click on page 3 onwards immediately, that way i know there arnt any hidden adverts and the spam sites are, in most cases, less frequent.

No they shouldnt be delivering services like this, they should be working on making there current services more transparent and clean..

Digg story on CoRank (3 comments, +28 / -2 votes )
Avg: Agree
#1 i recently wrote a blog entry briefly explaining why i moved to coRank over digg. I understand Digg are going to have churn issues over the next couple of months, i just hope those that churn love coRank as much as i do..

Such a nice site.. i hope it stays that way!
