Well, I m back from my NAGA tournament. For those of you just joining this blog, I drove down this weekend to Columbus Ohio to compete in my first ever North American Grappling Association submission fighting tournament. I m jazzed to say that I medaled in both of my divisional brackets, taking 3rd in the Men s Open 149 pound Beginner No-Gi and 2nd in the Masters 149 pound Intermediate No-Gi.
UFC lightweight fighter Jorge Gurgel was there supporting his amateur team. Jorge broke his jaw last week at UFC73, so he was grinning and mumbling his hellos with his jaw wired shut. The guy was definitely a celebrity, being an Ohio-based fighter. I saw him busy with fans posing for photos and autographs.
Overall, the weekend was a blast. I went down with Robin Black, who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in his 3 divisions. And he was the only competitor with blue hair…

What was my favorite part of the evening?
Not all the stoned biker chix.
Not all the face-melting pyro.
Not Chad s shredding vocal crowd interaction (he has the alltime best Hello Toronto! I have ever heard. Puts Paul Stanley to shame)
It was Nickelback s salute to Dimebag Darrell.
Dimebag was one of the greatest heavy metal guitarists of all time. He was gunned down on stage 2 years ago. Nickleback wrote a song for him on their latest album All the Right Reasons and oh brother was it a sonic face ripper!
For all of you dedicated to sticking it to the man, rocking the front lines, building bidnisses and getting paid, having fun and living your life to a different set of rules, I leave you with this video of Dimebag in his prime…remember to have fun today!

My wife Falia and I had a wonderful dinner on Saturday night with our good friends David and Stephanie Pynn. I ve known David since he was 13 years old. I enrolled his father into NSA selling water filters over 16 years ago.
Last winter the Pynn s had a beautiful baby girl, Victoria. She s now nearly 17 months old, so she got to sit in a high chair at the restaurant and eat grown-up people food. She enjoyed the Jumbalaya courtesy of her mommy!
I ve never really paid attention to when a baby eats before. But sitting right beside Victoria I could appreciate how much concentration goes into eating when you re that age. And how many quot;Uh-oh! quot; moments there are when food gets dropped.

Yesterday was an interesting day at our gym, the legendary Kombat Arts just west of Toronto.
I went in at 11am to help my coach train one of our super heavyweights, an Iranian kid named Ramm. I ended up sparring 4, 1 minute rounds with the big lug in boxing. He s 270 pounds, I weigh 149. Frankly, I m glad my head is still attached to my neck! He throws these monster hooks, and thankfully I possess enough speed to slip them and counter with punishing body shots, then move outside of the danger zone. It s one of those situations where if he wanted to damage me, he could, but killing your training partner is not the main aim of sparring.

Well, well, well.
A few days ago I mentioned a study done on Canadians that had stretched themselves too thin in the money department. "THIS" was the first thing that 60% of them get rid of first.
What was "THIS"? I posed the question, and we had two dozen comments and a flood of traffic to read the post.
I am proud to say not one person said "Mother-In-Law"…oops..correction, yes she was mentioned.
Quick, duck!
The correct answer is "cable TV".
The last thing they get rid of? The "car".
