Uranium rush gets under way in Africa
http://bajaenergys.blogspot.com/2007/12/africa-uranium-rush-...
Many countries are looking for cleaner and less-costly alternatives to oil and coal power, and uranium prices are high after a decades-long slump.
African Energy Resources, an Australian-owned mining outfit, is drilling on the southern border with Zimbabwe. Equinox, a Canadian-owned company, said in November that there was high-grade uranium in the Lumwana open pit copper mine in northwestern Zambia; it hopes to begin stockpiling it next year.

NORWAY: European Solar Power Keeps Spending
http://bajaenergys.blogspot.com/2007/12/norway-european-sola...
Dutch utility Delta clearly believes that solar energy is far from a flash in the pan: its subsidiary Solland announced on Tuesday a $736.2 million deal with silicon supplier Renewable Energy, which is set to last until 2015.
Solland Solar, 90% of which was bought by Delta at the start of this year, is extending an already-existing supply agreement with Oslo-based Renewable Energy. The Delta-owned company is in expansion mode, with the hope of expanding solar cell production to 170 megawatts of power per year, from a current level of 60 megawatts.

OiL FUTURES: IEA Says Signs of Rising OPEC Output May Boost Supply
http://bajaenergys.blogspot.com/2007/12/oil-futures-iea-says...
From the page: "The International Energy Agency, an adviser to 27 nations, said signs of rising OPEC supply have helped lower prices from a record near $100 a barrel in the past month, boosting prospects for winter heating fuel consumers.
Global demand in 2008 is forecast to rise 2.5 percent to 87.8 million barrels a day, the IEA said today in a report. That's 110,000 barrels a day more than last month's estimate. Demand for 2007 was revised lower by 60,000 barrels a day."

WESTERN HEMISPHERE: United States refuses to set CO2 cut target
http://bajaenergys.blogspot.com/2007/12/western-hemisphere-u...
The United States has refused to set a specific target for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions at a UN climate conference in Bali. The US says it will host a separate dialogue of the world's largest greenhouse gas emitters in 2008, at which clear numbers could be discussed. The European Union and other countries want the Bali conference to set a goal for industrialized countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 25 to 40 percent by 2020. But the United States says it will not change its position and instead stresses the importance of developing countries, previously exempt from the Kyoto Protocol, to start cutting their CO2 omissions. These countries say they fear such cuts would curb their economic growth. As the biggest greenhouse gas emitter in the world the US has long baulked at agreeing to binding cuts, refusing to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. The differing responsibilities of developed and developing countries are one of the top issues in Bali, with emissions from emerging economies still growing and developing countries arguing that the US and other industrial nations are not living up to their own commitments.

UNITED STATES: Stocks To Buy While Oil Is Cheap
http://bajaenergys.blogspot.com/2007/12/united-states-stocks...
What has happened to their forecasts since our last letter is that the upper ends of the ranges have been pulled back from above $100 in nearly all of the coming year's futures contract expirations, to now mostly between $95 and $100. The lower ends have been reduced similarly, but primarily in the nearest few months. In the coming year the lowest forecasts are still where they were on Nov. 9, at $75.
