Spam Blocking And Web Filtering With The Untangle 5.3 Network Gateway
26 / 2
http://www.howtoforge.com/spam-blocking-and-web-filtering-wi...
Untangle bundles common open-source applications for blocking spam, spyware, viruses, adware and unwanted content on the network in one single Linux distribution. It can be integrated into existing networks either as a router or as a transparent bridge (directly behind the router, but before the switch that connects the client PCs with the router). The best thing about Untangle is that you do not have to reconfigure the client PCs - Untangle works out of the box. Join discussion...

This guide shows how you can install and use incron on a Debian Etch system. Incron is similar to cron, but instead of running commands based on time, it can trigger commands when file or directory events occur (e.g. a file modification, changes of permissions, etc.). Join discussion...

28 / 1
http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-set-up-webdav-with-lighttpd...
This guide explains how to set up WebDAV with lighttpd on a Mandriva 2008.1 server. WebDAV stands for Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning and is a set of extensions to the HTTP protocol that allow users to directly edit files on the lighttpd server so that they do not need to be downloaded/uploaded via FTP. Of course, WebDAV can also be used to upload and download files. Join discussion...

Running Vhosts Under Separate UIDs/GIDs With Apache2 mpm-peruser On Debian Etch
27 / 2
http://www.howtoforge.com/running-vhosts-under-separate-uids...
This article explains how you can install and configure apache2-mpm-peruser on a Debian Etch server. apache2-mpm-peruser is an MPM (Multi-Processing Module) for the Apache 2 web server, very similar to apache2-mpm-itk, but faster (almost as fast as apache2-mpm-prefork). mpm-peruser allows you to run each of your vhosts under a separate UID and GID - in short, the scripts and configuration files for one vhost no longer have to be readable for all the other vhosts. It is based on metuxmpm, a working implementation of the perchild MPM. The result is a sane and secure web server environment for your users, without kludges like PHP's safe_mode. Join discussion...

Creating Advanced MySQL-Based Virtual Hosts On Lighttpd (Debian Etch)
24 / 6
http://www.howtoforge.com/creating-advanced-mysql-based-vhos...
This guide explains how you can create advanced virtual hosts on a lighttpd web server on Debian Etch that are stored in a MySQL database. The method described here does not use the lighttpd mod_mysql_vhost module, and unlike mod_mysql_vhost (which allows you to store only the hostname and document root of a vhost in a database), this method allows to store individual configuration directives for each vhost in the MySQL database.
