Promote a Healthy Cycle-Cross Season
1 / 0
http://www.bicyclepaper.com/
Time flies Once again, it is cycle-cross season and the West coast has a rich history in that discipline. First started as a fun way for road cyclists to break the monotony of winter training, it has since evolved to become its own very popular cycling discipline and attracts anywhere from hundreds to thousands of cyclists at each events. In the United States the cycle-cross season typically runs from September through December, with the World Championships held somewhere in Europe during the first week of February. Preparation for the season requires different training strategies than those for road and mountain racing. Attention to these specific details is often what makes the difference between staying healthy and having reasonable results. Tips to improve and promote a healthy ‘cross season: Run most swimmers and bicyclists look funny when they try to run. Their muscles and joints are not well prepared for their feet to hit the ground with such force. Ease into it running for the purposes of cycle-cross training should start as late as July. Endurance running should occur approximately twice a week; combine a road or track session and an off-road or trail run. Stretch the demands of road cycling on the legs are different than that of ‘cross riders who have much higher demand (range of motion and strength) on hip flexors, hamstrings and the Achilles. Coordinate Jumping off the bike at 20 mph onto wet, slippery and unstable ground requires a high level of coordination. The typical road cyclist is not as coordinated off of the bicycle. Polymeric training is a great start to improving your fall fitness. Join discussion...

CAR- Perfect Tuning
1 / 0
http://www.torquecars.com/
Catalysts are a vital component in our modern tree hugging environmentally conscious society. First Torque Cars will look at what a catalyst does and how it works. A catalyst is actually a term used to explain anything which accelerates or performs a chemical reaction. In a car the exhaust fumes are fed through a matrix of ceramic honeycomb lined with precious metals. As the metals heat up they cause the gases flowing through them to react and change into less harmful substances. In a 2 way diesel catalyst the CO2 and O2 into 2CO2 (carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide and partially burnt fuel into carbon dioxide and water) Diesels also have particulate filters. Petrol catalysts: 3 way catalysts are used in modern petrol engines. These convert nitrogen oxide into nitrogen and oxygen, carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons (partially burnt fuel) into carbon dioxide and water. A catalyst will die if it has unborn fuel entering it or it is used whilst it is cool. Therefore you should avoid jump starting a car with a catalyst and you must avoid short journeys. We will then see if there are power gains from a sports or high flow cat and compare these with the removal of the catalyst altogether. Join discussion...

Bike is B-KING
1 / 0
http://www.motorbikestoday.com/
Suzuki showed a truly ridiculous concept bike at the Tokyo show. Powered by a supercharged Hayabusa engine and with a wealth of high tech gizmos - fingerprint starting, GPS navigation, voice controlled anti theft devices and the like - the B-King had radical styling to go with the overall concept. Obviously, this was just a concept bike and so was never going to get built, no matter how the audience clamored for it. And clamor they did. The B-King (the name comes as an abbreviation of the original Boost King from the Supercharged engine) probably created more of a stir than any other concept bike we've seen. But it really wasn't viable for production. So when Suzuki confirmed that they were going to build it we were pretty surprised at first, before becoming deeply cynical of what would come out. We've seen it before, when a radical concept bike has been released as a production machine and the only real similarity is the name and, perhaps, some faint styling cues. When it was announced that the production bike wouldn't be supercharged we all nodded sagely. See? Join discussion...
