The lovely little city of Lalitpur, also known as Patan, is located about 20 minutes from downtown Kathmandu. Lalitpur (Patan) is believed to have been founded in the third century B.C, and is one of the oldest cities in the Kathmandu Valley. Lalitpur is said to be the most beautiful among the three royal cities alongside Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. The city is known for its finest tradition of arts and crafts and its rich cultural heritage. Most of the locals are engaged in various trades, especially in traditional handicraft and cottage industries. Lalitpur in fact is the only town in entire Nepal that has produced the highest number of most talented artists and finest craftsman ever recorded in Nepalese art history. The fine temples and places of worship draw thousands of visitors each year. www.abroaderview.org Join discussion...

Volunteer in New Delhi India all year round or spring break
2 / 0
http://www.abroaderview.org/newdelhi.php
India’s natural wonders run the gamut from deserts to jungles to snowy Himalayan peaks. While the south offers beautiful beaches, the north is rich in natural parks and monuments. Our volunteer placements are located in Greater Noida, outside of New Delhi. This city is a treasure trove of imperial Mughal monuments, bustling urban villages and British Raj-era avenues. Although India has one of the world's fastest-growing economies; the country still suffers from very high levels of poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition and a large growing cases of HIV/Aids. The status of rural woman and children in India need attention. According to the Minister of State for Women and Child Development, almost 40 % of malnourished children under the age of five years across the world are from India. Many children are denied even their basic rights of food, clothing and shelter. At least eighteen million children live or work on the streets of urban India. Our volunteer programs allow you to assist these children by providing them your love, attention and support. www.abroaderview.org Join discussion...

Volunteer Uganda Africa Volunteering Abroad
2 / 0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZ7trQ1nhsQ&feature=user
Uganda, the land of Lake Victoria, is situated in East Africa surrounded by Kenya, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Rwanda. It has a population of 27 million, over half of which are under 18 years of age. Famously called the "Pearl of Africa" by Winston Churchill, it is home to one of the most diverse and concentrated ranges of African fauna including the highly endangered mountain gorilla and the chimpanzee. Unlike its neighbors; Kenya and Tanzania with their built up tourist infrastructure, Uganda is still growing meaning visitors can experience "real" Africa. There are bustling open markets, lush subsistence farming, charming rural villages and a multitude of National Parks. Today, Uganda has one of the highest orphan rates in the world, mainly due to the terrible HIV epidemic that has engulfed Africa. There are over 2 million children living with this disease, most of whom are under 15 years old. We have programs available in Jinja, Kampala and in the rural villages of Mpigi District. In this district, 98% of its population lives in rural areas, and subsistence agriculture is the major activity. The poverty experienced in this area is not just a lack of money but also the inability to access basic needs, such as health care and health facilities, voluntary HIV counseling and testing, as well as basic affordable education for the children. Our programs allow you to take part in meaningful community service work, while discovering the people, sights, smells and tastes of Uganda. Volunteering in Uganda is a way to totally immerse yourself in East African culture. This is a great opportunity to make life-long friends, learn a new culture from the inside out and discover that one person really can make a difference. Volunteer with us and see A Broader View of the World. Volunteer opportunities are available in urban cities and rural village around the country. Join discussion...
