The fact is that vanilla couples, I mean those who do not deal with BDSM activity, erroneously think that BDSM sex toys and accessories are designed only for torturing and humiliating. Having no wish to involve elements of cruelty, dominance and submission in their sexual relationships they deny BDSM sex toys even without knowing what these sex toys are.
