The first software I see as a worthy alternative is called Abiword. It is today's fast and most powerful word-processor. It makes it very easy while writing a large letter and/or document due to it's fast and simple word processor engine. Open source, compatible multiplatform and easy integration with Microsoft Office is all there with Abiword. The main reason that this can be considered is due to its reduced footprint on your hard disk and RAM.

In the older versions of Windows like XP / 2000, to turn a feature OFF you had to Uninstall it completely from your computer. But in Windows Vista the features remain stored on your hard disk, so you can turn them back ON if you want to. Turning off a feature does not uninstall the feature, and it does not reduce the amount of hard disk space used by Windows features.

Raise your hand if you used Hibernation in the Windows XP! It was always a really nice feature, but just too much hassle to actually worry about doing it. It was so much easier to just slam the lid shut and your computer would just go into StandBy without having to make 3 clicks of the mouse! It’s kinda sad to say that, but 3 clicks is a lot of clicks if you’re dying to get home after work!

Microsoft has released a 3D RSS reader for Vista that uses the Windows Presentation Foundation to transform your RSS folders and feeds into a 3D galaxy! Your folders will be represented as galaxies, and your feeds will be represented as stars that are cubes and spin and or smaller or larger depending on how many items are unread! And the faces of the cubes will display the current content and media for the RSS feed! As a Star Trek fan, I find this very cool!!

I just read this article off ComputerWorld and this seems like it’s really going to be kickass for System Admins! There seems to be a way to install Vista straight from a USB stick (your computer’s BIOS will have to support booting from a USB drive), which would be a good bit faster than installing from a CD drive, almost 50% faster according to ComputerWorld.
