Wow, I looked up directions yesterday to go to Harrah’s Casino in New Orleans for a comedy show and I was annoyed because Google Maps kept telling me this long and drawn out way through bad neighborhoods that just didn’t make any sense! Yes, it was the fastest route out of them all, but I would have also liked to have lived through the drive for crying out loud!

I was just searching for directions on Google maps and noticed a new button called Traffic! Now I’m not sure how long it’s been there, but I don’t think I saw it a couple of days ago! So now they have satellite, hybrid and traffic maps! It’s getting better and better!

HA HA HA! So I was in Google maps playing around with directions to and from various places, when I typed in Paris by accident…so from New Orleans, LA to Paris (France) and Google come back with directions to my surpise!!!

Google keeps coming out with stuff faster than Microsoft can break things! Goodness. I just played around with a new feature of Google maps called My Maps. I’ve been looking for this type of feature before, but didn’t really like any of the mashups that were already out there. Most of them were geared towards a niche like tracking your running routes or something similar.

Google Maps in 3D

If you live in a big city, you may have not yet realized that Google Maps now displays buildings in a wire frame 3D when you zoom in closely. But you won’t see the 3D building unless you zoom in almost to street level. For example, here’s the World Financial Center buildings in New York:

The Google Code project has just delivered a nifty little utility for those World of WarCraft lovers out there. It’s called MapWow and it takes the Google Maps API and uses it so that you can explore the terrain of the World of WarCraft “world” using the same tools as Google Maps!

I wrote a post a couple of days back on how you can use the new Google MyMaps feature to create your own interesting and fun maps to share with friends or family. But if you’re not into doing things all by yourself, then you can take the assistance of CommunityWalk.com or Platial.com that basically walk you through creating your own map and take care of publising it for you.
