He who owns a site (or a blog) must have heard of Google Analytics (or more probably is using it to track his site visitors behavior). To view your site stats you have to log into your analytics account. Today I accidentally came across a tool that you can use to access Google Analytics right from your desktop (but, of course, you need an Internet connection to use it).

If you monitor your web site or blog stats through Google Analytics, then you’ll be in for a big suprise when you log in the next time! Google has just updated their Analytics program with a whole new interface (that is really nice) and a couple of nice features such as the ability to email or export reports in PDF format, customize the main screen when you first login, and compare different time periods on one graph.

This method uses crontab to execute a shell script that downloads an updated urchin.js file every 24 hours and saves it into your local sites directory so that it can be served by your web server instead of the google-analytics.com web server. The problem with google-analytics.com is that when google-analytics.com/urchin.js is requested by billions of web users all over the world at one time, it can cause your pages to load very slowly, especially if you are using WordPress or a similar CMS.
