One of the well known chemical elements is Silver. It is a white, lustrous transition element that is represented by the chemical symbol Ag which was derived from a Latin word "Argentum" which means silver. The name silver came from an old English or Anglo-Saxon word "seolfor" which also means silver. It has an atomic number of 47, atomic weight of 107.87 and atomic volume of 10.3 cc/mol. Silver is slightly harder than gold. It is also described as ductile and malleable metal with a melting point of 961.930C or 17610F, boiling point of 22.120C, specific gravity of 10.50 (200C) and valences of 1 and 2. In the periodic table of elements, Silver is part of period 5 with elements like Zirconium, Tin and Iodine and belongs to group 11 family with Copper, Gold and Roentgenium. Came from the Latin word, Stannum, with chemical symbol of Sn, Tin is one of the seven elements in the periodic table that are classified as "other metals" and are located in groups 13, 14 and 15. These elements are ductile and malleable but are not the same as the transition elements. It does not exhibit variable oxidation states, and its valence electrons are only present in its outer shell.
