An overview about the chemical element Silver

One of the well known chemical elements is Silver. It is a white, lustrous transition element that is represented by the chemical symbol Ag which was derived from a Latin word "Argentum" which means silver. The name silver came from an old English or Anglo-Saxon word "seolfor" which also means silver. It has an atomic number of 47, atomic weight of 107.87 and atomic volume of 10.3 cc/mol. Silver is slightly harder than gold. It is also described as ductile and malleable metal with a melting point of 961.930C or 17610F, boiling point of 22.120C, specific gravity of 10.50 (200C) and valences of 1 and 2. In the periodic table of elements, Silver is part of period 5 with elements like Zirconium, Tin and Iodine and belongs to group 11 family with Copper, Gold and Roentgenium.
