USA: Internet radio royalty hike delayed; last chance to petition Congress

Internet radio will remain safe and sound, at least through July of this year, on account of a new decision by the US Copyright Royalty Board. Under the CRB's original ruling, Internet radio stations would have had to begin paying retroactive royalties on May 15, thereby knocking many of them offline due to the crippling fees. The new date, July 15, 2007, is two months later than the original deadline set by the CRB and offers some reprieve for Internet radio stations hoping for a miracle ...

The RIAA is looking more and more like the Mafia. Not only is it trying to kill Internet radio, but its royalty-collecting subsidiary, SoundExchange, is now claiming the right to collect royalties for ALL artists, even those who want nothing to do with the RIAA and its jackbooted henchmen.

RIAA Secretly Tries to Get ISP Subscriber Info

In an attempt to change the rules of the game, the RIAA secretly went to a federal district court in Denver with an ex parte application. The goal was to get the judge to rule that the federal Cable Communications Policy Act does not apply to the RIAA's attempts to get subscriber information (pdf) from cable companies.

RIAA - Judge denies RIAA request to reconsider attorneys' fees award

RIAA are now caught between a rock and a hard place. The first wave of litigants whom RIAA have been trying to defame and extort money from are winning there cases and reaching a point where Judges are siding with them to take the case into the public domain. In Capitol v. Foster, the judge has denied the RIAA's motion for reconsideration of his attorneys' fees award. What this means is that her case is in arms throw of reaching a happy ending for her and bad for RIAA.

CD Sales Plummet, RIAA Gets Progressively More Emo About It

CD Sales dropped 12.8 percent last year after dropping 8.1 percent in 2005. Digital downloads didn't pick up the slack, despite increasing 74.4%. All in all, the recording industry's sales dropped 6.2 percent.
