NORWAY: European Solar Power Keeps Spending
3 / 1
http://bajaenergys.blogspot.com/2007/12/norway-european-sola...
Dutch utility Delta clearly believes that solar energy is far from a flash in the pan: its subsidiary Solland announced on Tuesday a $736.2 million deal with silicon supplier Renewable Energy, which is set to last until 2015. Solland Solar, 90% of which was bought by Delta at the start of this year, is extending an already-existing supply agreement with Oslo-based Renewable Energy. The Delta-owned company is in expansion mode, with the hope of expanding solar cell production to 170 megawatts of power per year, from a current level of 60 megawatts. Join discussion...

WESTERN HEMISPHERE: United States refuses to set CO2 cut target
2 / 0
http://bajaenergys.blogspot.com/2007/12/western-hemisphere-u...
The United States has refused to set a specific target for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions at a UN climate conference in Bali. The US says it will host a separate dialogue of the world's largest greenhouse gas emitters in 2008, at which clear numbers could be discussed. The European Union and other countries want the Bali conference to set a goal for industrialized countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 25 to 40 percent by 2020. But the United States says it will not change its position and instead stresses the importance of developing countries, previously exempt from the Kyoto Protocol, to start cutting their CO2 omissions. These countries say they fear such cuts would curb their economic growth. As the biggest greenhouse gas emitter in the world the US has long baulked at agreeing to binding cuts, refusing to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. The differing responsibilities of developed and developing countries are one of the top issues in Bali, with emissions from emerging economies still growing and developing countries arguing that the US and other industrial nations are not living up to their own commitments. EUROASIA: France, and not Russia, will be the EuroCommission’s chief opponent in the i

http://blog.bajaenergy.com/2007/09/euroasia-france-and-not-r...
CHINA: CNPC Will Sign a Deal for Turkmen Gas Field
1 / 0
http://bajaenergys.blogspot.com/2007/07/china-cnpc-will-sign...
"The agreement signed between Turkey and Iran paves the way for the Nabucco project and we no longer need any other supplies to meet the Nabucco gas requirement," the official said. Turkey had sought Russian gas for the 4.6 billion euro ($6.3 billion) Nabucco project that will cross its territory. It is backed by the European Union partly as a means to diversify from reliance on Russian gas by opening access to central Asian gas. Join discussion...
