Holi, Holika Dahan, or the festival of color, sees Hindu India celebrating good harvests and the Earth's fertility, although it usually descends into childish pranks and everyone gets very messy, this year on the 3rd of March.
Huge bonfires are made on the eve of the festival (one explanation being that they drive out Dhunda, a female demon, from participating villages), while the actual day is marked by loud processions, singing, dancing, traditional songs - and a whole lot more.

Rome Marathon with ARTEH

Starting on the 15th of March, Rome's annual marathon route passes some of the city's most famous monuments, including the Colosseum and St Peter's Basilica, the main synagogue and mosque.
Certainly a scenic tour, if you manage to worry about anything but your aching feet!
Even though the race itself takes place on 17 March, Rome begins celebrating three days in advance with the Marathon Village, an initiative that includes concerts, shows, stalls and meetings throughout the city.

Madeira Island Open with ARTEH

The PGA European Tour visits Portugal's Campo de Golfe do Santo da Serra for the Madeira Island Open, from the 22nd to the 25th of March.
The island is actually the peak of a submarine volcano - an absolutely stunning location - and the players take on a beautiful but testing, wooded mountainous course.
The PGA European Tour and its American counterpart, the PGA Tour, are the richest and most celebrated golfing competitions in the world.

America’s Cup in Valencia with ARTEH

This year, starting on the 4th of April, the city of Valencia will be hosting America’s Cup 32nd edition, considered to be the biggest sailing contest in the world. For many people this is more a duel than a regatta, where there is no honor in coming 2nd. Victory is what counts.
This is spirit of the oldest prize in sports, a sport that has been named after the first boat to have every won the competition, in 1851, the America.

Cartier at Gulbenkian with ARTEH

“Cartier 1899-1949. The journey of a style” is at the Gulbenkian Foundation until April 29th. The journey of a style brings together an outstanding set of 230 jewels, watches and personal objects from the Cartier Collection, as well as some of Calouste Gulbenkian’s acquisitions that now belong to the Foundation.
The exhibition also includes original drawings – some of which are associated to the collector – moulds and a variety of documents.
