It is considered the premier place in Ilocos Norte, the place of powerful politicians in the Philippines including the well known "dictator" for 20 years, the ex-president Ferdinand Marcos. One of the advantages of Laoag City among other towns and provinces within Northern Luzon is that it has its own airport, which serves as international gateway.
