In March 1993 Kevin Carter made a trip to southern Sudan and took this photograph. The picture would later bring him the Pulitzer prize, but also death.

Wow. This is a cognitive dissonance moment. Carter took 20 minutes setting up the shot. 20 minutes of the child's suffering life. The fact that he took the time to take the shot meant that he would reach the world with the tragedy taking place in Sudan. The burden of the decision made apparently proved more than Carter could handle.
