Froomkin probes whether Gonzales is issuing carefully parsed acknowledgements of mistakes in order to take heat off the White House and its involvement with the politically-motivated firing of 8 US Attorneys.

Gonzales needs to resign, but that should not stop Congress from fully investigating this incident and all the players. Democracy is a fragile thing, and the politicization of the enforcement of our laws is not only dangerous, but should be anathema to all Americans who grew up believing in the rule of law. What happened to ethics? When did so many of our leaders, both governmental and corporate, decide that the ends justify the means, and the only "mistake" you need to worry about is getting caught?

It seems that the dynamically generated link used in the headline is to the most recent post by Froomkin. Which begs the question, "why would *anyone* do that?"
