For those of you just joining this blog, I drove down this weekend to Columbus Ohio to compete in my first ever North American Grappling Association submission fighting tournament. I m jazzed to say that I medaled in both of my divisional brackets, taking 3rd in the Men s Open 149 pound Beginner No-Gi and 2nd in the Masters 149 pound Intermediate No-Gi.
UFC lightweight fighter Jorge Gurgel was there supporting his amateur team. Jorge broke his jaw last week at UFC73, so he was grinning and mumbling his hellos with his jaw wired shut. The guy was definitely a celebrity, being an Ohio-based fighter. I saw him busy with fans posing for photos and autographs.
Overall, the weekend was a blast. I went down with Robin Black, who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in his 3 divisions. And he was the only competitor with blue hair…
