Australian David Hicks, the first prisoner to face a new U.S. war crimes tribunal, unexpectedly pleaded guilty on Monday to a charge of helping al Qaeda fight American troops during the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan. Hicks entered his plea following the first day of hearings in the military tribunals created by Congress after the Supreme Court struck down an earlier version that President George W. Bush authorized to try foreign captives on terrorism charges.

The guy may or may not be guilty, frankly I don't know. All I know is that he pleaded guilty after being incarcerated for 5 years in unknown and dubious conditions with rumors of light torture at worse, and sleep deprivation at best. God only knows what anyone would be willing to admit to in those conditions. This seems like a pretty poor way to publicize our way of life and our beliefs to the rest of the world.
